DAY TRIP DESTINATION: TAHQUAMENON FALLS
54 miles north of St. Ignace
Explore the wilderness trails and spectacular views of Tahquamenon Falls State Park, just an hour’s drive away. A fa - vorite day trip during all four seasons. With a drop of almost 50 feet and stretching over 200 feet wide, the majestic Upper Falls are one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. A short drive, or 4 mile hike, will take you to the Lower Falls, a series of five smaller falls. The Falls are also famous for their amber color and mounds of foam.
DAY TRIP DESTINATION: SOO LOCKS
50 miles northeast of St. Ignace
As the only passageway to Lake Superior, these locks open to ships from all over the world. Watch the freighter traffic from the observation platform or take a scheduled boat tour through the locks. Stop in the Soo Locks Visitors Center and discover how the Locks were built. Picnic in the park next to the St. Marys River or bring a chair and enjoy one of the weekly summer concerts.
DAY TRIP DESTINATION: MACKINAC ISLAND
20 minute ferry ride from St. Ignace
Mackinac Island has a wealth of things to explore and experience, from history, culinary delights and leisurely recreation, plus family adventure to romantic getaways. On your ferry ride to the Island, you’ll see Grand Hotel and Victorian summer homes as you approach the harbor. Horse-drawn carriages and bi cycles are the only modes of transportation. Mackinac Island also features incredible glacial-age rock formations such as Arch Rock and Skull Cave and several historic sites, including Fort Mackinac.
